As mentioned in my phone calls, we had a good appointment last week with Dr D. The ultrasound ended up only being a fluid check and that came out GREAT. My BP was up slightly (138/78), but protein looked good (i.e. none or trace). The NST (non-stress test) was a little worrisome. Naturally, after being a pistol in the ultrasound, Audrey decided to take a nap during the first half of the NST. Fortunately, I had been smart enough to bring a juice box with me, so during the last 5-10 minutes, she perked up considerably and Dr D gave us a gold star.
What was really nice is that she asked if we understood what was happening and why we were doing what we're doing. I suspect it was more for David (who came with me) than anything else, but it was great to be able to chat briefly about it. And I was incorrect about something:
Our issue is that I'm trending small and Dr D's concern is that there is a placental problem that is causing the SGA. She thinks the placenta may have been the cause of the pre-eclampsia with Julian and that it may be causing the SGA now and/or may cause pre-eclampsia again. Which is why we're watching the fluid and going to do a growth check every 3 weeks. The BP/protein check will ensure that we monitor for pre-eclampsia correctly.
Interesting enough, the BP is just one part of the whole that she'll look at and her main concern is the bottom (disystolic) number. 90 is pretty much our cut-off; however, the top number (systolic) can go pretty high (like 160) so long as everything else is good. That's actually rather encouraging.
We really appreciate all the thoughts and prayers!
