No Election Day Surprises - At least from Baby Girls!

35 weeks and all is well! Another great appointment today. We had our growth check ultrasound along with the BPP and moved up a little in the world - 4.9% at 35 weeks! Hooray! Still SGA, BUT at least we didn't fall off the growth curve of 3% at 32 weeks. Estimated weight is 4lbs 9oz. Go baby girl! Yeah, that's off from the "typical" 5 1/2 lbs you'd see in a normal curve, but still, we'll take it. Definitely continuing to grow, even if at a slightly slower pace. Fluid levels and the NST were all good. My blood pressure was good (not as great as last week) at 142/81, but well within an acceptable range.

We're now scheduled for a c-section at 37 weeks on Tuesday, November 18th at 12:30pm. Basically, the medical protocol for SGA is to get to 37 weeks (provided there are no complications) and then to induce/c-section. The risks of perinatal distress and even mortality (I'm trying to be sensitive) rise significantly after that point. Essentially the risk is that an underlying issue could crop up quickly and cause major concern.

The interesting part is that if for some reason I should go into labor myself before then, I MAY actually have a shot at a VBAC (which I didn't think I would). Dr D wasn't totally confident in that idea; simply because she doesn't know why we have the SGA and is concerned about the baby. However, if I happen to go into labor and we're both progressing well during a fairly quick timeline then we might have a shot. We won't even think about that until next week!

So, now we'll just see if the day goes as well for Daddy as it did for Mommy and Baby!

34 weeks and continuing

Sorry for the delay in posting gals. Hope you're all doing well and gearing up for Halloween! It was another good appointment this past week. The BPP ultrasound was "perfect" according to Dr D and no issues with the NST. My BP was up slightly, but the fact that I was on the tail end of a cold explained that just fine. So, got the get out of jail pass once again. I go in for my second weekly NST tomorrow late morning, but all systems look good to go! Next Tuesday we'll have the BPP ultrasound and a growth check in addition to the other stuff. If all looks good from there, then we'll pick a date at 37 weeks to have a baby. If we fall off the growth curve (i.e. from 5% to 3% to below 3%), then we'll look at picking a date at 36 weeks (i.e. the week after next). Keeping my fingers crossed that we'll make it 37 weeks.

I don't know if you guys got this with your first pregnancies, but having fun when baby girl decides to do a horizontal flip! It's so weird, not only to feel her make the move, but also the implications afterward. Yesterday she was facing due West (from my perspective) and now she's switched to East. So instead of getting bumps on my left abdomen, I'm getting kicks to my right kidney. It's so strange to think of exactly where my uterus is positioned. Doesn't feel like it's squarely in the middle of my body, but off slightly to the right. Sorry, it's a new experience for me! We're officially a whole week past Julian's pregnancy. Which is VERY exciting for me!

Love and kisses to you all!

Another free pass

Glad that Baby Britton checked out okay from last week's ultrasound! I'm sorry you got the "sneak peek" at the goods, but I have to agree that better a healthy baby - girl or boy - than anything else. It was so good to see everyone on Saturday. We had such a wonderful time (and Nicole, tell your mom again how much I LOVED the chili!) and the photo of us three girls turned out great! I'll post as soon as I can download.

We got a free pass today for another week, which I couldn't be more thankful for! Looks like both the baby girl and the big man upstairs have agreed to wait a little bit longer.

The bio-physical profile (bpp) ultrasound was good. Fluid was great; baby girl practiced her breathing; heartbeat strong; etc. It was pretty quick too - just 10 minutes really. Audrey's getting to be an expert at these things. And interestingly enough, this time I actually DIDN'T get a picture of her girl parts. I think that's the first time in like 4 weeks! I'm doing great - bp down and protein absent. The NST also looked great. No concerns for letting me go today.

I'll be back to see Dr D for another NST (they'll be twice weekly now) on Friday and then the weekly ultrasound (BPP again) on Tuesday of next week with the NST after. Don't expect another growth check-in for a couple of weeks. Hopefully by that time we'll be looking at 35/36 weeks and we'll be showing a really good weight. I'll be honest that I'm still praying to hit 37 weeks, but since I don't get the final say in such matters, we'll have to wait and see. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers; it's much appreciated!

Baby Britton's Ultrasound

We had our ultrasound this morning and Baby Britton looks good. Everything was totally normal and all the measurements fit with the estimated due date. The little one kept grabbing his/her foot with one hand and did quite a bit of wiggling. They tried to give us 4-D pictures, but they were frankly harder to see than the normal ultrasound and kinda scary looking. (Not beautiful, like yours, Becky!)

As you know, we didn't want to find out the sex. We kinda/sorta think we might have figured it out on our own, however. Tony doesn't want me to say what we think it is; he's more sure than I am and is not happy to have the surprise "ruined." I keep telling him that we are happy to have found out that the baby is healthy and that we shouldn't worry about the rest. He agrees with his head, but is pretty bummed out-- he was really looking forward to the delivery room announcement.

31 week photos

We got a couple of "photos" from our last appointment. The office just got in a 3D machine and the techs were playing with it, so we got a couple of exciting pictures!
The YAWN (tilt head to right) There's my girl!!

And the best yet:
How sweet?!

Another week - closing in on 32

As mentioned in my phone calls, we had a good appointment last week with Dr D. The ultrasound ended up only being a fluid check and that came out GREAT. My BP was up slightly (138/78), but protein looked good (i.e. none or trace). The NST (non-stress test) was a little worrisome. Naturally, after being a pistol in the ultrasound, Audrey decided to take a nap during the first half of the NST. Fortunately, I had been smart enough to bring a juice box with me, so during the last 5-10 minutes, she perked up considerably and Dr D gave us a gold star.

What was really nice is that she asked if we understood what was happening and why we were doing what we're doing. I suspect it was more for David (who came with me) than anything else, but it was great to be able to chat briefly about it. And I was incorrect about something:

Our issue is that I'm trending small and Dr D's concern is that there is a placental problem that is causing the SGA. She thinks the placenta may have been the cause of the pre-eclampsia with Julian and that it may be causing the SGA now and/or may cause pre-eclampsia again. Which is why we're watching the fluid and going to do a growth check every 3 weeks. The BP/protein check will ensure that we monitor for pre-eclampsia correctly.

Interesting enough, the BP is just one part of the whole that she'll look at and her main concern is the bottom (disystolic) number. 90 is pretty much our cut-off; however, the top number (systolic) can go pretty high (like 160) so long as everything else is good. That's actually rather encouraging.

We really appreciate all the thoughts and prayers!

What's in a name?

I think you're both up to speed, but now that the news has broken to the entire family...

It's official, we have a name for Baby Girl:

Audrey Aileen Huber

Audrey - English origin meaning Noble Strength

Aileen - Irish origin meaning Light

Audrey was actually a name suggested by Sherry when David started polling family and friends to see what names they liked. It just seemed to resonate with us. Aileen is Sherry's middle name; not sure I need to explain any further than that. Means a lot to me that she'll carry her Godmother's middle name.
